Who’s that Pokémon? Carl Pei teases new Nothing Phone

Pei has confirmed a new Nothing phonethis year, and judging by his post we might just see one very soon. This is only a teaser though, and no details for the upcoming Nothing Phone have been shared yet.

·        Carl Pei confirms new Nothing Phone (2a)?

• Carl Pei’s post on X and Instagram features a pixelated image with a silhouette of what looks like a Pokémon. Judging by the shape of the dragon-like creature, many users on X have said that it looks like the Pokémon Aerodactyl. The dragon reference might also refer to the 2024 Chinese Zodiac animal which is a dragon.
• What’s more important is the post caption which reads, “New Year New Me…..New Phone.” No other details about the device was revealed but there have been rumours floating around about a new Nothing phone. It’s surprisingly not the Nothing Phone (3) but a more affordable offering from the London startup.
• Nothing is reportedly planning to launch a new phone dubbed Nothing Phone (2a). As the name suggests and rumours allege, this will be a toned-down version of the flagship Nothing Phone (2). There have been leaks and rumours on the Nothing Phone (2a)’s alleged pricing and specs.

Nothing Phone (2a): what we know so far

• Nothing Phone (2a) will reportedly launch in two variants of 8GB RAM + 128GB storage and 12GB RAM + 256GB storage.
• It’s tipped to cost below 400 Euros which falls around Rs 36,800. Pricing of the device will vary depending on the market.
• Nothing Phone (2a) is also said to come in two colour options of Black and White colours, same as the flagship models.
• The design seems to be different though with the cameras placed at the centre but no visible lines for the Glyph Interface. This is only from a leaked image though, and the final design is expected is likely to change.
• In terms of specs, we could see a 50MP Samsung ISOCELL S5KGN9 primary camera, and a 50MP ISOCELL JN1 ultra-wide angle lens. For selfies, there could be a 16MP front camera.
• It’s tipped to feature a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
• The smartphone is also expected to house a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 processor.
• On the software front, the Nothing Phone (2a) is expected to run Android 14-based Nothing OS 2.5 out-of-the-box. It could also pack a 4,290mAh battery.

Nothing Phone (2a) is reportedly codenamed Pacman and it could launch in markets including India, Japan and Europe. Nothing has also scheduled an event for MWC 2024, where the Nothing Phone (2a) is expected to debut.

·        New Nothing Phone (2a) leak reveals camera details

• A reportfrom Smartprix has revealed that the Nothing Phone (2a) could feature a camera setup similar to its older siblings. The Phone (2a) will feature a 50MP Samsung ISOCELL S5KGN9 sensor at the primary camera with a 1/1.5″ sensor size. This sensor has not been publicly launched by Samsung yet, but the Moto G84 is another smartphone that features the same.

Further, Nothing will use Samsung’s 50MP ISOCELL JN1 sensor for the ultrawide camera. It would be worth noting that this is the same sensor that Nothing Phone (1) and Phone (2) boast, too. When it comes to the selfie camera, the Phone (2a) will come with a 32MP Sony IMX615 sensor. Nothing Phone 2a launch date, other features (expected)

Nothing is reportedly working on a new mid-range phone, reportedly dubbed the Nothing Phone (2a). The phone has started appearing online where it received the BIS certification.
