Apple to equip all iPhone 16 models with a new and improved Action Button: report

• iPhone 15 Pro models swapped the Mute Switch for Action Button, a configurable multi-purpose switch. The regular iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus missed out on the feature. However, if a new rumour is true, then, the vanilla iPhone 16and iPhone 16 Plus will also have the Action Button along with the Pro models. Not just that, this upcoming Action Button would be different in design from the current-gen and allow more functionalities.

·        Apple iPhone 16 with Action Button: What to expect

• As per MacRumours, all iPhone 16 models with feature an Action Button that will be capacitive in nature. The ones on the iPhone 15 Proand iPhone 15 Pro Max are mechanical buttons. This means the new Action Button could function like the Touch ID Home button on older iPhones or the Force Touch Trackpad on newer MacBooks.
• The internal documents reveal the Action Button codename is Atlas and that it will have a force sensor capable of analyzing pressure and “tact-switching functionality”. Also, the documents mention a Capturebutton on the iPhone 16 series that could function similarly to the Action Button.

The details are a little hazy but the company is expected to ship all future iPhones including the iPhone SE 4 with the Action Button. So, Apple seems to be ditching the signature Ring/Silent button in favour of this new button. MacRumours also claim Apple is working on bigger-sized Action Buttons too that look like the iPhone volume rocker.

In time, we should see more renders and leaks regarding this. For now, we can safely assume the Action Button to carry forward the following features:

• Flashlight:Trigger the ‌iPhone‌ flashlight with a press.
• Voice Memo: Do voice recording in a jiff.
• Focus: Activate the Focus Mode that suits the situation. Press the button again to toggle it off.
• Shortcuts: Use the Action Button to access any of the Shortcuts you have saved on your iPhone.
• Accessibility features: Toggle any of the accessibility settings to aid your use, especially if you are specially-abled in case of hearing or vision.

• iPhone 16 Pro displays could be bigger while the vanilla models to stick to the same sizes as before.
• iPhone 16 Pro battery could have a frosted metallic shell and bigger size.

• We are just two months since the iPhone 15 serieslaunched and already there are leaks and tips about the next-gen iPhone 16 lineup. Firstly, there’s word from Apple’s Supply Chain network that the iPhone 16 Pro models will have slightly bigger panels while the regular models will carry over similar display specs. Then, there’s a leak of the iPhone 16 Pro battery revealing the new design and materials used in it. Let’s learn about both of them here.

·        iPhone 16 displays (rumours)

• As per South Korean media outlet Naver, relevant supply chain sources believe the iPhone 16and iPhone 16 Plus could sport 6.12-inch and 6.69-inch LTPS 60Hz displays respectively. So, that would be similar display dimensions as the regular iPhone 15 The only bit of difference could be in the use of some elements, the details of which are unclear at the moment.
• Meanwhile, the real difference rumoured is in the Pro models. AppleiPhone 16 Pro could get a 6.27-inch LTPO panel and the Pro Max (Ultra) could get a 6.86-inch LTPO screen. For comparison, the iPhone 15 Pro has a 6.1-inch screen and the iPhone 15 Pro Max has got a 6.7-inch panel.
• Now, this iPhone 16 Pro Maxscreen size claim seems too big to be true. Hence, take it with a grain of salt.

iPhone 16 Pro battery (leak)

In a separate leak by Kosutami San on X.com, we see the alleged iPhone 16 Pro battery prototype’s photos. These images reveal the battery’s frosted metallic shell and a 2.5 percent bigger battery size compared to its predecessor.

If the leak turns out to be true, the iPhone 16 Pro models at least could switch from black foil casing to metallic casing on their batteries. This could lend better thermal efficiency without much difference in weight. We have already seen this transition in the Apple Watches starting Series 7.

Speaking of thermal optimisation, all iPhone 16 models are said to feature graphene heat sinks inside. Thanks to better heat conductivity properties, it could improve heat dissipation on the forthcoming iPhones.

iPhone 15 Pro models had a jerky start mainly due to heating issues which made customers uncomfortable. There were multiple reports and complaints from users regarding abnormal heating. It now appears that the company doesn’t want to repeat this and for that, Apple is tipped to be working on a graphene thermal system.
