Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 specs tipped, launch expected in Q1, 2024

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 could lie between Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 and 7s Gen 2.
  • It is rumoured to launch in Q1, 2024 and we have speculations about the launch timeline.
  • Let’s see how Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 could be a downgrade in terms of its specs and why would Qualcomm do s

After launching the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Qualcomm seems to working on releasing the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC next. The rumoured launch timeline is the first quarter of 2024. We have also got the supposed specs and other details about the chipset. However, what’s startling is that the leaked Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 specs appear to be a downgrade from its predecessor. This is only a leak so the final details will most likely differ.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 specs (leaked)

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 details have been shared by tipster Digital Chat Station. The first bit of detail we learn is that the chipset has the model number: SM7550. Here’s everything else the tipster tipped:

  • Process:The Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 is said to be built on TSMC’s 4nm manufacturing process, just like the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 before it. Now, it is not clear whether this is going to be an enhanced 4nm like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The reason Qualcomm isn’t moving to the 3nm process is probably because Apple has reportedly procured all the 3nm chips from TSMC for its iPhones and Macs.
  • Core structure: Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 will apparently comprise a prime core clocked at 2.63GHz, three performance cores (perhaps Cortex A715) running at 2.4GHz frequency, and four efficiency cores at 1.8GHz clock speed.

Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 has one Cortex-X2 prime core running at 2.91GHz, three Cortex-A710 performance cores clocked at 2.49GHz, and four Cortex-A510 efficiency cores running at 1.8GHz frequency. So, the max clock speed from the prime core is lower on the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3.

  • Graphics: The GPU in use is reportedly Adreno 720, while its precursor had an Adreno 725 GPU.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 specs

These specs are however an upgrade over the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 that launched in September this year. So, Qualcomm could be stacking up more options in the mid-range segment. Another guess is that this would be done to lower the cost for OEMs.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 launch timeline (expected)

According to tipster Yogesh Brar, Qualcomm could announce the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 in the first quarter of 2024. In his post on X, Mr Brar also says the chipmaker should price the chip better this time around and that would lead to more demand. Redmi is said to be its launch partner and we could see its and other OEM announcements following the launch.

Qualcomm Snapdragon has brought its new mid-range smartphone chipset, christened Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. It is made on a 4nm process like its predecessor and offers 15 percent faster CPU performance and a 50 percent more powerful GPU. The new chip claims even faster AI capabilities with its built-in neural engine. A few smartphone companies have already come forward teasing the imminent launch of Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 phones.

  • Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 arrives with major AI and GPU performance gains.
  • The chip is based on a 4nm process and is only 15 percent better in CPU speeds compared to its predecessor.
  • Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 phones are right around the corner.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 specifications

  • Make and model:Qualcomm mentions the  Qualcomm   Snapdragn 7 Gen 3 (with model number SM7550-AB) is based on a 4nm processing node, but doesn’t specify if it is manufactured on TSMC or Samsung Foundry.
  • CPU: Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 has a 1+3+4 design consisting of a prime core clocked at 2.6GHz frequency, three performance cores running at 2.4GHz and four efficiency cores operating at 1.8GHz clock speed. This setup is said to offer a 15 percent improved performance and20 percent improved power efficiency. This will be bolstered by up to 16GB of LPDDR5T RAM at 3200MHz speed and UFS 3.1 storage standard.
